About Ford
Ford is a performance rock star! He is the fourth generation basenji I have bred and is my first, first generation African basenji – to mean his Ntomba father was imported in 2010 as a puppy direct from a native village in Congo. I am enjoying learning the training differences between a first generation African and those down from the 1987-1988 Avongara imports.

Health
The OFA is a not-for-profit organization originally created to assist breeders in decreasing hip dysplasia. The OFA offers PUBLIC health databases/registries to assist breeders in assessing numerous other heritable concerns in their respective breeds. Reputable breeders health test and use the OFA as a means to display their progress.

Career Highlights
LURE COURSING:
Ford earned his Coursing Ability title and got his QC. After he grew up a little bit, he earned his AKC Field Championship (FC) easily.
Ford is now a Best In Field winner!
Ford plays on occasion in FAST CATs and has earned his DCAT title. He has one of the fastest lifetime scores – over 28MPH! Imagine where he would go if he could run more often.
NOSE WORK/SCENT WORK:
Ford has flown through his first two NACSW NW levels, with several pronounced elements and a 3rd and 4th placement out of roughly 30 dogs each trial. We missed one hide and timed out in our first NW3 trial but ended up in third place (only two qualifiers) out of 28 entries. His second attempt was a heart breaker, we were perfect through the last element where I screwed him up, earning our first ever “no!”. How many attempts will he need?
Fifth time was the charm, Ford finally gets his first NW3 pass and with a first place overall over 30-ish entries and 5 other qualifiers!
Ford gets another HIT at his very next NW3 trial over 15 qualifiers and 30-ish entries. That’s crazy!
Ford finished her NW3 Elite title with ANOTHER HIT. Three straight legs, three straight HIT. Few can say they have done that!
Ford has earned NACSW Elite Championship titles in 14 trials.
Ford has earned his overall AKC Master title and is now playing in AKC Detective where he only needs one more leg for his Detective title. Detective is challenging! Ford will work towards his overall Master Elite title.
Ford has earned a HIT in AKC Advance, multiple HITs in Excellent and multiple HITs in Detective.
Ford has dabbled a little in NACSW Summit League. No Summit title thus far but he sure came close in the last trial Unbeknownst to me at the time – as the last dog running the last search of the last day – Ford entered that last search only needing to find 2 hides to earn enough points for a title. Sadly I got in his way and we only found one hide. What a thrill though to even be in possible contention!
OBEDIENCE:
Debuted with a bang in Novice B at the 2017 BCOA National Specialty where he earned a 196.5, 1st place and beat his mother Ph’nx and sister Tar out for High In Trial.
His second leg he did not finish on his recall portion and his score dropped from a 196 to 193; good for 2nd place out of 18 entries.
His third and titling leg was a dream come true. He earned a 198.5 to not only take the class, but he beat out 38 other entries (Border collies, Goldens, Dobermans, even Obedience Trial Champions) for my first ever AKC All Breed High in Trial. His grand dam Sage earned a UKC all Breed High in Trial back in her day.
Earned his first CDX leg with a Specialty HIT – his third HIT! Ford earned his overall CDX trial with back to back legs. His titling leg he had to do a run off with the Open B winner (an OTCH toy poodle) for HIT. Sadly he did not win the runoff but we were honored to be in the running for another all breed HIT.
We have been training for Utility and hope to hit the ring in 2025.
Earned his BN title easily.
AGILITY:
Ford earned his MACH title on December 29, 2022, the same day his Mom, Ph’nx earned her MACH3 title. We will slowly transition Ford to working with Rand for the remainder of his agility career while I concentrate on Ledgen. Between the three of us Ford is well on his way towards his MACH2 title.
RALLY:
Debuted at the BCOA National Specialty in August 2016. Earned a perfect score of 100 and first place. Finished his RN title with a 98 and 99. Readily earned his RA and RE with placements.
Ford and his mom Ph’nx finished their AKC Rally Championship titles on the same day. Ford earned many HC and HTC along the way.
BARN HUNT:
Has his RATN title. Currently working on his RATO title. Two legs thus far.
TRICK DOG:
Earned his Trick Dog Champion title May 2017! See his application video here. Quickly earned his AKC Trick Dog Performer title. He is the first basenji to earn these titles.
